Name: Saloko. Ceremonial pole and basket. Same as 109095. A bamboo pole about 10 feet long is split into several slits at one end, bamboo is interwoven thus holding strips apart and forming a basket. A jar or cocoanut shell is placed inside and in it offerings of food and drink are placed for the spirits who bring the headache. This is the so called "head-pole" or "headbasket". In former times the heads of enemies were sometimes displayed on these poles. This is still the universal custom in Apayao. For further information see notes on ceremonies. |
