Name: Lagtang:- Berries or nuts which are dried and crushed after which they are put in moss and thrown in a pool where fish are supposed to be. The powder stupifies the fish and causes them to rise to the surface where they are easily caught. The plant is identified by Dr. Green[men] as one of the Menispermaceae and is undoutably Anamirta cocculus (L.) Wright and arm. a species widely distributed through the Malayan provinces where it is frequently used to stupify fish and birds; the fruit is known also under the name "caque du herant". |
