See photos. The raised center allows space for the hand grip when the shield is in use, while a carrying band is used to suspend it from the shoulder at other times. Much attention is given to thedecoration and care of these arms, and nearly all are carved, painted or inlaid with beads and mother-of-pearl. A similar type of shield is used by the Moro of the Lake Lanao region. |
