The actual significance of the carvings is not known, but the fact that they are called "anito"that is "spirit" and that offerings are placed before some of them, seems to indicate that they represent the inhabitants of the spirit world. A large figure, placed on the trail between Somoki and Tulubin was erected just prior to a head hunt. At that time the warriorsspent a night there making offerings, and watching signs favorable to their project. |
