Casting Net
A large funnel shaped net, the small end of which is fastened by a cord to the operator. It is thrown with full arm movement and falls like a parachute, the sinkers all striking the water at the same instant. Fish within the circle dart upwards to escape the sinkers. The operator draws in the cord, thus causing the sinkers to drag along the bottom. When the net is directly beneath the fisherman the lead sinkers come together and their weight closes the net, thus preventing the escape of the fish. TINGUIAN. Northwestern Luzon, Philippine Islands. Robert F. Cummings Expedition. F.C. Cole, Collector.
