Cannon
When the Spaniards first reached the Philippines they found the Moros in possession of firearms, and the greatest treasures of the datos or sultans were these cannons. They made many themselves, but doubtlessly secured some from Borneo. They were also found making powder and shot. These cannons are loaded to the muzzle with stones, bit of iron, and other projectiles, and the fire is held until the enemy is very near, so that no shots are wasted. The gun carriages vary from those with wheels to logs or forked sticks. MORO. Western Mindanao, Philippine Islands. Presented by Edward E. Ayer.
