The Divavaoan
THE DIVAVAOAN. This collection was secured from the little known people who call themselves Divavaoan. It is probable that they are a branch of the Mandaya, but their dialect is quite distinct, while their material culture is the same as that of the neighboring Manobo. They are found in small settlements along the upper waters of the Agusan river, to the north and west of Compostella. They are essentially warriors but engage in agriculture and search for forest products to the extent that they are able to trade for all necessary clothing and weapons. The cards accompanying the material in this case give all the information which has been gathered concerning this people. Southeastern Mindanao, Philippine Islands.
