Catalog Description Name: Earthen cooking pot. Round bottom. Bulging sides. Narrow rim encircling mouth. Marks of paddle used in making of bowl, upon entire exterior surface. In recent years many metal pots have reached the Ilongot through trade. However, some of the women are still excellent pottors. They knead the clay with their hands, in order to remove gravel and lumps, and then shape the pots with their hands. A portion of a broken dish generally serves as a crude potter's wheel and is turned with the hands. The final shaping is done with wooden paddles in which designs have been cut. When these are pressed against the damp clay they leave a decorative imprint. The pots are then fired and are ready for use.
